Gates' web page has not
been updated for over three years and probably much longer than that.
It has a photograph of Dr Kevin E Gates (Gates). Obviously,
the photograph was taken many years ago. I would say at least
ten years ago. Nowhere on his site does Gates detail the source of
his qualifications. I have been unable to find the identity
of his alumni elsewhere.
I wonder about Gates.
Soon after I first saw him at UQ Maths about ten years ago, he had a green
parrot with one badly hacked wing, in order to ensure, I guess, that it
could not fly away. He used to walk around the maths department
with the bird on his shoulder, pirate style. He looks very tall as
he is very skinny and weak. I have never seen him smile.
He kept the bird in his office. He had a cage for the bird, but every
time I have seen Gates' office, the cage has been open. The
bird was allowed to roam Gates' office. There was always a great
mass of bird defecation on the university's furniture in his office.
There was no air conditioning. The office was open to
the atmosphere and flies.; clearly, a health hazard.
